Owlboy devs move from birds to Vikings in its bouncy co-op succession

Here at Nintendo Life, we love game titles that are so weird you can’t help but laugh, and we think D-Pad Studio’s upcoming release might just be the cake. The development team behind 2018’s stunning pixel platformer, Owlboy, are back with – are you ready for this one? — Vikings on trampolines! Yes, you read that right, they are Vikings and they are on trampolines.

Towards the end of last month, the studio shared a tweet claiming they would be unveiling their new game at this year’s Gamescom, but today’s trailer reveal (from IGN) suggests the event is solely for a playable demo.

The trailer shows that the game is as comical as you would hope with such a title. You play as a team of Vikings tasked with taking down enemies in the air, all from the safety of a ring of stretchy canvas. Remember Dreamworks’ battle How to train your dragonbut replace the dragons with trampolines and you’re basically there.

Expect plenty of co-op games as you team up with your friends and engage in the bounce brawl. The trailer promises absolutely everything you can imagine; you can wreak havoc on your own, or you can team up in multiplayer chaos for up to 4 players so you have your band of horned helmeted homies ready to get some air.

The game was really teased about 11 years ago (thanks, Destructoid), and fans of the developer’s previous game are eager to see how this ends. Check out some screenshots from the game’s trailer below:

As we hope the images above show, D-Pad continues Owlboy’s stunningly stunning pixel art visuals in this upcoming release. This was a feature that became one of the driving forces behind our love for the previous game and this time it will definitely be an asset again.

Unfortunately, the studio has yet to comment on whether the game will get a Switch release, with Vikings on Trampolines currently only planned for PC. However, we are aware that this is still too early for the follow-up to D-Pad, and based on Owlboy’s success in the eShop, we’d be surprised if these Vikings don’t go down the same path.

Expect us to get more information about the game at this year’s Gamescom.
