Police press Biden for COVID-19 vaccines for children under 5, criticizes FDA’s inaction ‘| Governor

Governor Jared Polis on Tuesday called on the Biden administration to have a vaccine issued to children under the age of 5 and criticized the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for its “lack of action and urgency.”

In its letter, Polis noted that Colorado is home to a quarter of a million children under the age of 5 who remain at risk of becoming infected with the virus. FDA approved emergency use of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for children from 5 to 11 last October.

“I am writing today to ask for your help in escalating the urgent need for urgent treatment of safe and effective COVID-19 vaccines for children under the age of 5,” the governor wrote. “It will help ensure that the vaccine is available to families with children under the age of 5. Keep our children in the classroom, give parents more peace of mind and help put the pandemic behind us.”

Police said Colorado plans to see their family members, but for the third summer in a row, the youngest children do not have protection from a vaccine.

“Many parents of young children feel left out and are rightly unhappy that the FDA’s lack of action and urgency has made them unable to protect their children and their loved ones like everyone else,” Polis wrote.
