Prisco’s NFL Week 2 Picks: Saints Beat Tom Brady Again, Chiefs Outlast Chargers in AFC West Shootout

The first week of the NFL season is always so unpredictable. So I’ll be happy with my first week of choices after seeing what happened in week 1.

I went straight up 7-8-1 which stinks. I went 8-8 against the spread, which is so-so. But the good news is that I went 5-1 on my best bets as part of the Pick Six Podcast. And if I hadn’t added the Jacksonville Jaguars late, it would have been a blank slate. Even that looked good for a while.

So let’s get back to it in what I call an even week in the NFL. Teams that looked bad in week 1 probably won’t look like this in week two, while the reverse is likely true for some of the winners. It won’t always turn out that way, but I think it will be in many of the games this week.

Time to get the real record back on track, but above all let’s keep warm with the best bets.

Thursday, 8:20 PM ET (Amazon Prime)

Featured game | Kansas City Chiefs vs. Los Angeles Chargers

This is the match of the week with Justin Herbert against Patrick Mahomes. That’s a treat when they meet, and Arrowhead will be rocking on Thursday nights. The Chiefs rolled into the Cardinals as Mahomes ripped things off. But the Chargers can rush the passerby with Khalil Mack and Joey Bosa. Look for a high scoring game where the Chiefs win a close.

Choose: Chiefs 31, Chargers 30

Sunday, 1:00 PM ET (CBS, Paramount+)

Featured game | Baltimore Ravens vs. Miami Dolphins

The Dolphins and Ravens both won impressively last week, but now Miami is heading out for the first time. The Dolphins dominated the Ravens at home last year, but that will be different. The Ravens and Lamar Jackson get the best of the dolphins.

Choose: Raven 27, Dolphins 20

Sunday, 1:00 PM ET (CBS, Paramount+)

Featured game | Cleveland Browns vs. New York Jets

The Browns face a well-known quarterback in Joe Flacco this week. He wasn’t good at losing the Jets to the Ravens last week. The Browns took a narrow win against Carolina last week, but they are at home in this one and Jacoby Brissett will play better in his second start for the Browns. They go to 2-0.

Choose: Browns 24, Jets 13

Sunday, 1:00 PM ET (Fox, FuboTV)

Featured game | Detroit Lions vs. Washington Commander

The Commanders score a home win over the Jaguars, where Carson Wentz took them late to the winning score. The Lions looked good on offense against the Eagles, but the defense was terrible. This could turn into a shooting spree. Washington is the better team and I think it will show. Commanders take it.

Choose: Commanders 31, Lions 27

Sunday, 1:00 PM ET (CBS, Paramount+)

Featured game | Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Indianapolis Colts

The Colts haven’t won at Jacksonville since 2014 and lost there last week in the final week to cost them a playoff spot. They also play consecutive road games, with Jacksonville playing the home opener. That’s a big advantage for the Jaguars. The Colts gathered last week to tie the Texans, but this time they will not rally to win. The Jaguars will take their first win.

Choose: Jaguars 26, Foals 23

Sunday, 1:00 PM ET (Fox, FuboTV)

Featured game | New Orleans Saints vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Bucs play consecutive road games after a Sunday night game, which is always difficult. But they are also attacked in a big way. The Saints defense will go after Tom Brady if his line is healthy, which it isn’t. See if the Saints defense will get big here after last week’s struggle. The saints take it.

Choose: Saints 23, Bucs 17

Sunday, 1:00 PM ET (Fox, FuboTV)

Featured game | New York Giants vs. Carolina Panthers

The Giants have done some good by rallying late to beat the Titans on the road. Saquon Barkley was special. He will carry the team here again against a Carolina team that lost to the Browns last week. The Giants go to 2-0. Can you believe it?

Choose: Giants 23, Panthers 17

Sunday, 1:00 PM ET (CBS, Paramount+)

Featured game | Pittsburgh Steelers vs. New England Patriots

The Patriots play consecutive road games after a terrible show in Miami. The Steelers play their home opener after upsetting the Bengals. But the Steelers will be without TJ Watt, which is very important. The defensive dynamics are changing. The patriots will hang around in this as the attack finally shows some life. They will then win it late.

Choose: Patriots 21, Steelers 20

Sunday, 4:05 PM ET (Fox, FuboTV)

Featured game | Los Angeles Rams vs. Atlanta Falcons

The Rams have had 10 days of rest after a terrible show against the Bills. Sean McVay is too good a coach to let that loss linger. The Falcons played well by losing to the Saints in a game they probably should have won. This is a long journey against a good team that will be focused. Aries take it big.

Choose: Rams 31, Falcons 17

Sunday, 4:05 PM ET (Fox, FuboTV)

Featured game | San Francisco 49ers vs. Seattle Seahawks

The Seahawks are 1-0 while the 49ers are 0-1. Who saw that after week 1? Seattle played well in disrupting the Broncos on Monday night, but now they are leaving for a short week. That’s a challenge. The 49ers didn’t play well in the poor conditions at Soldier Field by losing to the Bears, but that will change here. Trey Lance gets to work.

Choose: 49ers 29, Seahawks 23

Cincinnati Bengals (-7.5) at Dallas Cowboys

Sunday, 4:25 pm ET (CBS, Paramount+)

Featured game | Dallas Cowboys vs. Cincinnati Bengals

The Bengals get a break from fighting Cooper Rush instead of Dak Prescott. It took Joe Burrow a while to get going against Pittsburgh after being through much of training camp, but he got the rust off in the second half. I think that will continue. The Cowboys are too limited in attack. The Bengals win.

Choose: Bengal 27, Cowboys 20

Houston Texans in Denver Broncos (-10)

Sunday, 4:25 PM ET (CBS, Paramount+)

Featured game | Denver Broncos vs. Houston Texans

The Broncos play their home opener after losing to the Seahawks Monday night in a game they should have won. The Texans played well at tying the Colts last week, but this is going to be a bigger challenge down the road. I think they can hang out in this, but the Broncos will win it late.

Choose: Broncos 24, Texans 21

Sunday, 4:25 PM ET (CBS, Paramount+)

Featured game | Las Vegas Raiders vs. Arizona Cardinals

The Raiders lost to the Chargers, but played well. The Cardinals lost to the Chiefs and played terrible football. Now they are hitting the road for the first time. The Cardinals just don’t feel like they’re a good team. Derek Carr lights them.

Choose: Raiders 34, Cardinals 17

Sunday, 8:20 PM ET (NBC, FuboTV)

Featured game | Green Bay Packers vs. Chicago Bears

The Packers were terrible at losing to the Vikings, while the Bears shocked the 49ers in a heavy rainstorm. This is the right game for the Packers. Aaron Rodgers and the passing game will get it going, and the defense will dominate the offense of Justin Fields and the Bears.

Choose: Packers 34, Bears 14

Tennessee Titans at Buffalo Bills (-10)

Monday, 7:15 PM ET (ESPN, FuboTV)

Featured game | Buffalo Bills vs. Tennessee Titans

The Titans have suffered a brutal loss to the Giants, where they have taken a big lead. Now they head north to play against a Bills team that has had 11 days of rest. That matters. Buffalo has had problems with the Titans in recent years, but that won’t be the case here. Josh Allen continues to roll up large numbers.

Choose: Bills 33, Titans 19

Minnesota Vikings at Philadelphia Eagles (-2.5)

Monday, 8:30 PM ET (ESPN, FuboTV)

Featured game | Philadelphia Eagles vs. Minnesota Vikings

This is one of the best matches of the week, with two 1-0 teams taking impressive wins. Minnesota’s defense was excellent against the Packers last week, but this is a different style of attack. The Eagles will get a lot of points here, but the Vikings will get theirs too. This will be a shootout where the Eagles will make the most of it.

Choose: Eagles 32, Vikings 26
