LYNN HAVEN, Fla. (WMBB) — The LEAD Coalition of Bay County hosted a free vaccine clinic on Sunday where anyone ages five and older could receive their COVID-19 vaccines, as well as booster shots for those who qualify.
The LEAD Coalition partnered with Resilient American Communities on this free vaccine clinic to increase access to community members who might otherwise struggle to get a vaccine.
“It was just an effort to make the vaccine readily available to the entire community,” said Dr. Carrie Baker of the LEAD Coalition. “Some communities are less fortunate when it comes to time and places and we wanted this to not be a hindrance.”
The clinic had all three COVID-19 vaccines available, as well as the booster shots.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced Friday that Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna booster shots are now approved for everyone 18 years and older, six months after receiving their second dose.
Many residents were happy with this news and made it a point to get their boosters on Sunday.
“I heard about the clinic on Facebook and then I decided it was a good opportunity to come out and get my booster as I got my last seven and a half months ago so I thought it was a good time was to make sure I was covered,” said Michelle Cerbantec.
“It’s an opportunity to come out and get the vaccine booster and I think it’s important for my protection and for the protection of my family and the people I interact with every day. I’m confident and appreciate the opportunity to be here today and get it,” said Bob Pearce.
Baker said the majority of the people she’d seen at the event so far were in attendance for their booster, but stressed the importance of reaching out to those who haven’t been vaccinated as well.
“This virus has really adversely affected our community, so we just want all of us to be vaccinated and do well and for the economy to do well, which is why we’re here,” Baker said.
The LEAD Coalition hopes to soon have another vaccine clinic more focused on vaccinating children. Details about time and place are yet to be confirmed.
