A fourth federal stimulus check may not come, but people in many states may be eligible for more money after filing their 2021 tax. Many states have come up with legislation that offers people stimulus checks after filing taxes. April 18 was the last date to file 2021 taxes.

These states provide stimulus checks after tax filing

If you have already filed your 2021 tax, you may be eligible for more money depending on your state. Georgia, for example, signed a bill in March that provides eligible residents with stimulus checks after tax filing.

“HB 1302 will allow for a one-time tax deduction for taxpayers who have submitted tax returns for both 2020 and 2021,” Governor Brian Kemp’s office said in a statement.

According to the governor’s office, the state tax department will issue additional credit after residents file their 2021 tax. Eligible taxpayers can get $ 250, while married couples will get $ 500 (household registration at all will get $ 375).

“When the government takes in more than it needs, I think those dollars should be returned to the taxpayers because it’s your money – not the government’s,” Kemp said earlier.

Indiana also has similar legislation that provides a “$ 125 automatic taxpayer refund” to eligible nationals after they file their 2021 tax.

In December, Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb announced for the first time a $ 125 refund to about $ 4.3 million in taxpayers after filing their 2021 tax.

“After the tax filing deadline expires on April 18, the Department of Taxation, in conjunction with the State Audit Office, will begin issuing refunds by direct deposit or by sending a paper check,” the Indiana governor’s office said earlier this month.

New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham also signed similar legislation in March to give residents a tax rebate after they file their taxes. Under the law, single filers will be entitled to a one-time tax rebate of $ 250, and married filers will receive up to $ 500.

Similar proposals from other states

Idaho is also giving more money to the residents and has set aside $ 350 million for it. The criterion for getting the money is to submit 2020 and 2021 tax year statements. Full-time residents of Idaho who have filed for repayment of grocery credits are also eligible for cash. The money will be equal to $ 75 or 12% of the Idaho state taxes paid by 2020, whichever is greater.

Some New Jersey residents could also get more money if a new proposal from Governor Phil Murphy is approved. Last year, Murphy and the state legislature approved budget measures to send one-time rebate checks of up to $ 500 to about 1 million families.

Now, the governor has proposed $ 53 million more to send $ 500 stimulus checks to those who file taxes using a taxpayer identification number instead of a Social Security number. This means that the payment will primarily go to non-residents and resident foreigners, their spouses and relatives.
