LAHORE: The SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Saturday praised Pakistan’s cautious decision to send positive signals to India, the US, China and other countries on better ties in the coming days for lasting peace in the region combined with sustainable economic growth.
Speaking to a delegation of traders led by Muslim Khan Benowari, he said it was a good omen and an expression of satisfaction that the newly democratically elected Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reiterated the need for close cooperation with the United States, India, China and others. countries to further deepen relations on the principles of equality, mutual interest and mutual benefit. He said ties between Pakistan and the United States were sadly touched by low levels after former Prime Minister Imran Khan was accused of ousting his government.
He said the United States’ swift response to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s goodwill gesture reaffirmed long-standing ties with the new Pakistani government and looked forward to further strengthening the important relationship.
Iftikhar Malik said that in response to tweed from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Pakistan called for peace and focus on socio-economic development of the people and wanted co-operation with India focusing on addressing core issues as well.
He said Pakistan also stressed the importance of increased investment from China in industrialization, agriculture and digital technologies. He said Pakistan reaffirmed its commitment to further deepen the win-win economic cooperation between the two countries, he added. He said China in response has offered economic rescue package to steer Pakistan out of crumbling economic swamp.
He hoped that Pakistan’s new visionary leadership would strictly adhere to key positions on all important international issues besides better relations with all neighboring countries for lasting peace and for the prosperity of the people of the region he joined.
