Second stimulus checks updates (1/5/21): How can I check the status of my payment?

Finally, the federal government has started sending out $600 incentive checks to people.

In fact, from December 29, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) began depositing aid money directly into people’s accounts and sending out paper checks the next day reflecting that amount.

Obviously, this update begs the question: When will you get your own second stimulus check?

To help answer that question, the IRS has launched a tool on its website that allows individuals to track the status of their payments. In addition, appropriately titled “Get My Payment,” the IRS page explains whether or not someone qualifies for the stimulus check.

“The IRS emphasizes that no action is required by eligible individuals to receive this second payment,” the agency said in a press release. “Some Americans may view the direct deposit payments as pending or preliminary payments in their accounts prior to the official payment date of January 4, 2021. The IRS is reminding taxpayers that the payments are automatic and they should not contact their financial institutions or the IRS. with questions about payment terms.”

Fortunately, since contacting your bank or IRS is apparently a fruitless endeavor according to the above, there are plenty of online resources you can use to find out how to take advantage of this second round of incentive payments.

For example, did you know that babies born in 2020 may be eligible for an additional $1,100 in incentive money on a dependents basis? Or that, if you missed the first round of the incentive checks last year, you can still claim that missing amount on your upcoming tax return?

At the end of the day, the stimulus checks are underway. There are plenty of resources to keep you up to date, and a host of helpful articles for finding out exactly what’s going on in Sam Hill when it comes to personal finance.

Please note that the “Get My Payment” tool may occasionally crash due to the influx of traffic.
