Sixers’ Matisse Thybulle returns from COVID-19 for Saturday’s game against the Blazers

PORTLAND, Oregon — The 76ers get one of the better defenders back on Saturday night.

Matisse Thybulle will play in the Sixers’ game against the Portland Trail Blazers at the Moda Center. The reserve swingman has been in the NBA’s COVID-19 health and safety protocols since Nov. 5, originally for contact tracing. He then tested positive for the coronavirus while in quarantine.

“He won’t play much,” Doc Rivers said for Saturday’s shootaround. ‘He’s been out, played match last night. We will play him, but we will not play him much.”

Thybulle has been sidelined for the past seven games.

The third-year veteran averaged 5.1 points and 2.3 steals in nine games with two starts. He was named to the All-Defensive squad of the league’s second team last season.

Meanwhile, Joel Embiid (Protocols), Danny Green (left hamstring tightness), and Ben Simmons (not mentally ready to play) remain sidelined. Portland point guard Damian Lillard (abdominal tendinopathy) is listed as probable.
