Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday announced an announced social security scheme for the newspaper’s newspaper hackers in light of their role and struggle to connect the public with the news.
Newspaper dealers registered under the Unorganized Workers Social Security Board would be eligible for benefits under the scheme. Under the scheme, their families will be given `2 lakh in case of accidental death and` 1 lakh in case of natural death. Similarly, hackers who have been completely disabled due to accidents will be given `1.5 lakh, and those who have lost both limbs in case of partial disability will be given` 80,000, and those who have lost one limb , will be given `40,000. In view of the financial difficulties they are facing due to Covid-19, it has been decided to provide special assistance of `3,000 each to all registered newspaper hackers in two phases.
The state government has also decided to provide work shelters for them at the district level and instructed the information and public relations department to make a digital database of shopkeepers and hand out identity cards to all of them after proper screening.
