Social Security (SS) recipients benefits should receive checks every month.
The Social Security Administration (SSA) sends out multiple batches during this time to ensure that the benefits arrive on time.
Payments will be deposited into citizens’ accounts on Wednesdays. However, this depends on their birthday.
That means beneficiaries born at the beginning of the month will receive their payments earlier than those born at the end of the month.
Payment arrivals based on date of birth
Born on the 1st to the 10th: Your payment must arrive on the second Wednesday of each month
Born on the 11th to the 20th: Your payment must arrive on the third Wednesday of every month
Born on the 21st to the 31st: Your payment must arrive on the fourth Wednesday of every month
It can take up to 90 days for the first SS payment to arrive after the application is submitted.
If more than a week has passed since your distribution date, this is considered a delay.
Another reason your check is late may have to do with not reporting a change of address to the SSA office.
What should I do if my Social Security payment is late?
Contact SSA immediately.
If the delay is due to a change in personal information, please call your local office or 1-800-772-1213 (Monday through Friday, 7am to 7pm).
