GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan (WOOD) — Spectrum Health is experiencing an increase in the number of hospitalized COVID-19 patients.

The Grand Rapids-based hospital system reported 303 COVID-19 patients on Thursday, up from 272 the day before. This is the first time Spectrum Health has had more than 300 COVID-19 patients since April.

According to Spectrum Health, as of Wednesday, 85% of the 272 hospitalized COVID-19 patients have not been vaccinated. When it comes to the number of COVID patients in the ICU, 94% are unvaccinated.

The hospital is seeing more patients with all kinds of conditions, but COVID-19 remains a major contributing factor. Since August, the number of patients admitted to hospital with the virus has continued to rise.

Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital is also dealing with a record number of children being hospitalized with COVID-19.
