
St. Joseph County reported 129 additional COVID-19 cases this week
Michigan reported far fewer coronavirus cases in the week ending Feb. 13, adding 29,804 new cases. This is a decrease of 50.2% compared to the previous week’s figure of 59,870 new cases of the virus causing COVID-19.
St. Joseph County reported 129 cases and three deaths in the past week. One week earlier, it had reported 391 cases and five deaths. During the entire pandemic, it has reported 13,436 cases and 189 deaths.
Michigan ranked No. 33 among the states where coronavirus spread fastest on a per-person basis, according to a U.S. TODAY Network analysis of data from Johns Hopkins University. In the past week, coronavirus cases in the United States decreased by 41.5% compared to the week before, with 1,217,001 reported cases. With 3% of the country’s population, Michigan had 2.45% of the country’s cases in the last week. No state had more cases in the past week than they had the week before.
In Michigan, cases fell in 82 counties, with the steepest falls in Wayne County, with 4,179 cases from 9,545 a week earlier; in Macomb County, with 1,967 cases out of 5,650; and in Oakland County with 3,702 cases from 6,573.
The highest weekly outbreaks per person was in Schoolcraft County with 593 cases per. 100,000 pr. week; Chippewa County with 519; and Gratiot County with 494. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, high levels of community transmission begin at 100 cases per year. 100,000 a week.
Adding the most new cases overall was Wayne County, with 4,179 cases; Oakland County, with 3,702 cases; and Macomb County, with 1,967.

Michigan reported administering an additional 221,245 vaccine doses, including 45,583 initial doses. In the previous week, the state administered 27,646 vaccine doses, including 6,165 first doses. In total, Michigan reported that it has administered 14,957,841 total doses.
Michigan ranked number 35 among states in the proportion of people who received at least one shot, with 65.7% of the population at least partially vaccinated. The national rate is 75.9%, shows a US TODAY analysis of CDC data. The Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, which are the most widely used in the United States, require two doses to be administered every few weeks.
In Michigan, 590 people were reported dead of COVID-19 in the week ending Sunday. In the week before that, 676 people were reported dead.
A total of 2,324,854 people in Michigan have been tested positive for coronavirus since the pandemic began, and 33,463 people have died from the disease, according to data from Johns Hopkins University. In the United States, 77,739,880 people tested positive and 919,696 people died.

Hospitals in zero states reported more COVID-19 patients than a week earlier, while hospitals in three states had more COVID-19 patients in intensive care units.
