An Alabama city has made a list of the 20 Best Places in America to Live with Just a Social Security Check.

The study was based on the average monthly Social Security benefit of $1,400.

Topping the list was Wichita Falls, Texas, followed by Brownsville, Texas; Muncie, Indiana; Lawton, Oklahoma; and Terre Haute, Indiana. Rounding out the top 10 was Akron, Ohio; El Paso, Texas; Killeen, Texas; Lynchburg, Virginia; and Erie, Pennsylvania.

A city in Alabama – Birmingham – made the list and came in at number 15. The city scored well for the cost of living, but was let down by the quality of life score.

Here’s what GoBankingRates.com said about Birmingham:

“No city considered in this study has a lower cost of living score than Birmingham. Prices there are on average 27.4% lower than in the rest of the US. Those low costs come with a price; the livability score of 57 is the lowest of the 20 cities on this list.”
