(CNN) – The week begins with some major pandemic updates that could affect your life.

The first update: Pfizer says you may need another booster.

“The protection we get from the third is good enough, actually quite good for hospitalizations and deaths. It is not so good against infections. It does not last very long. But we’re just sending this data to the FDA, and then we’ll see what the experts would say outside of Pfizer as well, ”said Albert Bourla, Pfizer’s CEO.

Pfizer also said it hopes to have a COVID-19 treatment available for most children before returning to school this fall. It would be a version of its antiviral pill Paxlovid.

Right now, it is only approved for those 12 years or older who are at high risk for serious infection.

Also, if your children are younger than 5, here’s the latest on getting them vaccinated: “Potentially it can, if it works, and they will do their utmost to review them quickly. And we will be ready with manufacturing,” said Bourla.

This work to advance vaccine and treatment options comes when former President Barack Obama said he has tested positive. The same has several House Democrats who went on retreat last week.

The United States is now starting its third year of the pandemic.

“I can date exactly what happened around this time two years ago, from the declaration of the pandemic, from the school closures on March 13, from our first case on March 14, our closure for St. Patty’s Day, as we announced it. 16. ”said Dr. Penny Borenstein, San Luis Obispo County Health Officer.
