Abel Testafe unleashed a new version of the thumping, synth-heavy track, this time in a promo for the Tokyo Olympics track and field competition.
The new video, shared on The Weeknd’s social media accounts, is accompanied by the important detail: “8.6.21 new single.”
The Weeknd previously announced this next musical era at the 2021 Billboard Music Awards on May 23. “I just want to say that the After hours are done and the dawn is coming”, he said after winning Top Hot 100 Song presented by Rockstar for “Blinding Lights”.
2020’s After hours ruled sales charts around the world, and featured the hit “Blinding Lights,” which: history made as the first song ever to spend a year in the Billboard Hot 100‘s top 10, and is recognized as the #2 most-streamed song on Spotify (with 2.42 billion plays), behind only Ed Sheeran’s “Shape of You.”
