Top security advisers in the US and China discuss N. Korea during a 7-hour meeting of RomeNews

On Monday, US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan met with China’s top diplomat Yang Jiechi to discuss a wide range of issues, including North Korea.
According to a senior U.S. official who asked not to be named, the two officials shared their concerns about the regime’s recent actions, saying it caused an escalation of regional tensions.
During their seven-hour meeting, the official added that Sullivan was taking the steps that the United States believes are necessary, and expressed hope that China would cooperate on the issue.
They also agreed to continue discussions on the specific ways in which Washington and Beijing could pressure Pyeongyang to go another way.
The White House said earlier Monday that Sullivan and Yang should meet in Rome.
The meeting came when General Kenneth Wilsbach, commander-in-chief of the US Pacific Air Forces, said Washington was ready to respond to the Nordics with regard to its missile launches, which the US believes are aimed at eventually testing a new ICBM.
When Wilsbach answered questions about North Korea while speaking to the Mitchell Institute for Aerospace Studies on Monday, Wilsbach said Seoul and Tokyo remain deeply concerned about the threats posed by the Nordic region.
