The Biden administration announced on Wednesday that it is extending the nationwide mask requirement for aircraft and public transport for 15 days, as it monitors an increase in Covid-19 cases. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said it was extending the order, which was set to expire on April 18, until May 3, to allow more time to study the BA.2 omicron sub-variant, which is now responsible for the vast majority of cases in the United States (Associated Press)

Three universities in the Washington, DC region – American, Georgetown and Johns Hopkins – have partially reintroduced campus mask mandates after an increase in COVID-19 cases in the area according to statements from the institutions. (CNN)

In late February, the CDC made major changes to its recommendations for monitoring and responding to COVID-19 increases. KANE COUNTY: 47 new cases, 1 more death

Kane County added 47 COVID-19 cases and one more death, according to data released today on the Illinois Department of Public Health’s website.

The county-wide totals to date are 126,561 positive cases and 1,124 COVID-19 deaths.

The test positivity rate per amt is no longer updated daily by IDPH. Kane County data can now be found at COVID-19 monitoring site.

STAT ILLINOIS: 2,060 new cases, 10 deaths reported Wednesday

Illinois COVID-19 cases continue to increase, even while fewer tests are performed than during peak periods of the pandemic.

According to IDPH, the state counted 2,060 new cases and 10 more deaths today.

The total number is 3,088,725 positive cases and 33,499 COVID-19 deaths recorded in Illinois since the pandemic began.
