  • Former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows revealed the details in his book “The Chief’s Chief.”
  • Meadows said doctors “decided to give the president oxygen at the residence and hope for the best.”

Former President Donald Trump’s blood oxygen levels dropped to dangerously lows last year when he had COVID-19, The New York Times reported.

Mark Meadows, former White House chief of staff, revealed the details in his new book titled “The Chief’s Chief.”

It runs counter to Trump’s denial that his fight with COVID-19 in October 2020 wasn’t as bad as it seemed.

“That morning Dr. Conley pulled me aside and brought bad news,” Meadows wrote in the book, referring to Dr. Sean P. Conley, who headed Trump’s medical team. “While the president’s condition had improved slightly overnight, his oxygen level had now fallen to about 86 percent and could be falling, a dangerously low level for someone his age.”

The doctors “had decided to give the president oxygen at the residence and hope for the best,” Meadows added.

According to The Times, in the book, Meadows described a visit to a bedridden Trump prior to Walter Reed’s check-in, and the former president wore a T-shirt with disheveled hair and red streaks in his eyes “from the hours he’d spent Regeneron get into bed.”

Meadows added that upon arriving at Walter Reed, Trump had lost so much strength that he fell and could no longer carry his briefcase, which Meadows claimed weighed about ten pounds.

Trump initially promoted Meadows’ book, but later backtracked on his support for the book in light of the book’s revelations about Trump’s White House.

“‘The Chief’s Chief’ would be an incredible Christmas present, and with the United States’ supply lines totally dead, and with thousands of ships unable to unload because of incompetent leadership, you won’t have anything else to buy,” Trump said. said in a statement on Oct. 13. “Seriously, it’s a fantastic book, and Mark Meadows and his wonderful wife Debbie are wonderful people.”

Meadows also revealed that Trump tested positive for COVID-19 on Sept. 26, three days before his first presidential debate against Joe Biden, a detail Trump pulled out after his early promotion of the book.

“The story I have COVID before or during the first debate is fake news,” Trump said in a statement following a story about the book from The Guardian. “In fact, a test showed that I didn’t have COVID prior to the debate.”

Trump representatives did not immediately respond to Insider’s request for comment. Representatives from the Conservative Partnership Institute, where Meadows serves as a senior partner, also did not immediately respond to Insider’s emails.
