Maine saw the number of hospitalizations for COVID-19 rise again to an all-time high on Tuesday.
There are now 298 Mainers hospitalized with COVID-19 statewide, according to Nirav Shah, the director of the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention. That’s over 296 on Monday.
A record 96 of these are in intensive care. Another 40 Mainers are on the fans, falling just below the high mark of 41 set for Nov. 1.
“Not the Thanksgiving week they wanted,” Shah tweeted Tuesday.
He said unvaccinated Mainers continue to drive record high hospital admissions, accounting for 60 to 70 percent of people hospitalized with COVID-19. Shah noted that last week all of the COVID-19 patients on ventilators within the MaineHealth network had not been vaccinated.
‘What is the way forward? Vaccines are key. This holiday week, have your family vaccinated,” Shah said.
