FRANKLIN LAKES, NJ AND INDIANAPOLIS (February 25, 2022) – USA Track & Field and BD, a leading global medical technology company, today announced the extension of BD’s sponsorship to 2022.

As USATF’s official COVID-19 test sponsor, BD will continue to provide on-demand rapid testing solutions to help ensure the safety of all attendees at USATF events. The sponsorship will also include announcing at events and on broadcasts, as well as the presenting sponsorship of the 2022 USATF Indoor Track & Field Championships, to be held on 26-27. February in Spokane, WA.

BD and USATF joined forces in 2021 to help professional athletes feel more confident when returning to competition through the use of the BD Veritor ™ Plus System, a portable, user-friendly, point-of-care antigen test that detects SARS-CoV-2 with a simple digital display. By giving results in just 15 minutes, this test will help ensure the safety of our country’s fastest and strongest athletes, their coaches, event organizers and other staff.

BD delivered more than 8,000 tests for the 2021 Olympic trials alone, which helped ensure that athletes and participants were confident and healthy throughout the 2021 competition season. While the USATF maintained operations safely, they had a very successful year, highlighted by 11 Journey to Gold domestic events to prepare athletes for Tokyo and 26 Olympic medals.

“BD was a critical partner in 2021, delivering tests and allowing us to safely run our Journey to Gold events and at the U.S. Olympic team trials,” said USATF Executive Director Max Siegel. “Our continued relationship underscores the USATF’s priority of providing a safe, competitive environment at all times for our country’s top athletes, coaches, event organizers and other staff.”

Dave Hickey, President of Life Sciences for BD added, “The BD partnership with USATF emphasizes our commitment to helping people return to their normal lives and pursue their passions. To ensure that people have a fast, timely and reliable way testing for COVID-19 is crucial in keeping the disease at bay while helping athletes, families, supporters and fans back with confidence in the activities they love. ”

To live up to its commitment to protecting the welfare of its voters, fans and stakeholders, the USATF established a COVID-19 Working Group of Medical, Scientific and Industrial Experts, which advises on issues related to COVID-19 and receives regular updates from the US Centers for Disease Control, the World Health Organization, the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee, and other U.S. professional sports leagues. On the basis of the information, the working group provides guidance and recommendations on health, well-being and safety issues as well as competitive logistical conditions.
