Wake County sheriff’s deputy shot dead near a gas station on Auburn Knightdale Road

WAKE COUNTY, NC (WTVD) — Wake County Sheriff’s Office said a deputy was shot and killed in the eastern part of the county.

The shooting happened around 11 p.m. Thursday near a gas station on Auburn Knightdale Road and Battle Bridge Road. That’s not far from River Ridge Golf Club.

Wake County Sheriff Gerald Baker held back tears during a news conference Friday morning about the deadly shooting.

“We will find out who is responsible for this loss. Even in the midst of the pain and pain, we ask for prayer, we ask for patience as we find out what happened and who is responsible,” Sheriff Baker said.

Several authorities came to the scene. We are awaiting the identity of the deputy as well as any suspicious information.

“Every day our law enforcement officers bravely take risks to keep us safe and the past few weeks have been very tough. I am extremely grateful to them and their families and we must do everything we can to support them,” said Governor Roy Cooper. on Twitter.

This is the sixth deputy in our area in the past month.

Kevin DeSilva is in custody on multiple charges related to the shooting of Deputy Aaron Tyndall earlier this week in Caswell County.

Wayne County Deputy Sgt. Matthew Fishman was laid to rest Tuesday after being shot and killed while serving involuntary commitment papers. Two other deputies were also shot but survived.

And a Sampson County deputy is recovering after being shot while on duty last month while responding to a report of a car break-in.
