Warning of US-China space war over asteroid mining as superpowers fight to dominate industry for trillions of dollars a year

The United States and China are fighting to dominate the asteroid mining industry, as an expert fears that competition could lead to a potential space war between the powers.

Geopolitical expert Brandon J Weichert told The Sun that the United States is about 10-12 years behind Beijing as the Asian nation arms the galaxies.

He urged American elites to see galaxies as a geopolitical and geoeconomic zone instead of perceiving it as a “Star Trek world” where scientists explore the cosmos.

Last year, China launched its NEO-01 robotic prototype – its advertising spacecraft designed to mine resources.

Weichert considers the industry to be worth at least a trillion dollars.

He warned: “If you can start extracting these rare minerals, you have a significant advantage over the rest of the world, and China wants to gain that advantage first.”

The expert said the use of artificial intelligence and robotics technology will “fundamentally change the way humans operate in space”.

Weichert added: “China is already investing heavily in the kind of automated satellite systems it will use to extract nearby asteroids.

“It will completely revolutionize the way humans operate in space.

“Whichever country dominates space with that technology will dominate the earth.”

Texas Senator Ted Cruz claimed in 2018 that the first trillionaire will be made into space.

Weichert claimed that both China and Russia invested heavily in space warfare when they realized that America was not “paying attention”.

He blew up American “ignorance and arrogance” after the end of the Cold War.

Weichert argued that officials in Washington believed that American domination would not be challenged, and elites did not believe that rogue states would be “crazy enough” to launch an attack.

‘ARROGANT’ OS

In its Global Risk Assessment report of 2021, US intelligence warned that Beijing is seeking to arm space with “capabilities” designed to displace the United States into space.

The Space Force aims to produce more resilient architecture by 2026, The Military Times reports.

Frank Calvelli, a former official of the National Reconnaissance Office, told the Senate Armed Services Committee: “We are at a critical time for our space architecture and there is a real sense of urgency.

“The nation must make its space architecture more resilient so that it can be reckoned with in times of crisis and conflict.”

While Weichert welcomed the urgency of strengthening defense by 2026, he fears it will not happen until 2029 or 2030 at the earliest, unless Congress provides a greater wave of financial assistance.

‘URGENT TO ACT’

The expert has previously warned that Washington is lagging behind Beijing.

He fears that a US defeat in space will lead to a reorganization of the world system, which would be less favorable to Washington and its allies.

He added: “The United States is vulnerable in a way that we have not experienced since, possibly, the Cuban Missile Crisis and certainly since Pearl Harbor. “

The Pearl Harbor attack in December 1941, America toppled when Japanese forces bombed the U.S. Navy.

The sneak attack claimed more than 2,000 lives and was a dramatic sign from the Asian nation that they wanted to challenge US dominance.

Weichert also believes that Russia is preparing to launch a “devastating” attack on US satellites at the time it chooses.

In his book, Winning Space: How America Remains a Superpowerhe says Russian co-orbital satellites, known as space stalkers, have been lagging behind in the United States for years.

He predicts that the stalks will eventually hit the satellites and cause them to crash into the ground.

The expert said space is crucial to plans for authoritarian rulers who want to reduce the United States’ ability to project power.

He warned that before launching an attack on the United States, Russia would be “engaged in a series of escalations” with neighboring countries.

An attack in space would reduce Washington’s military capabilities, as according to the expert, there could be hits on nuclear command and control satellites.

China, India and Russia reached an agreement to extract minerals instead of redirecting the comet before it hit Earth, triggering a worldwide disaster.
