What’s Behind the COVID-19 Spike in Minnesota?

Kris Ehresmann, director of infectious diseases for the Minnesota Department of Health, told MPR News host Cathy Wurzer on Tuesday that COVID-19 cases are at higher levels, in part because people aren’t taking precautions.

Masking and social distancing are rare, she says, but the easy spread of the delta variant also leads to high case numbers.

On Monday, the Minnesota Department of Health reported more than 4,200 new infections. The total number of cases was the same as in December last year.
