When to expect the $600 stimulus check

With President Donald Trump signing the $900 billion coronavirus relief bill, many Americans can expect a second stimulus check in the coming weeks, a welcome development for households across the country who couldn’t afford to celebrate this holiday season.

As of last week, direct deposits from the IRS expected in bank accounts before December 31, with paper checks and debit cards mailed to all eligible households on January 15. But with the president’s delay in signing the bill, it may take a little longer for payments to arrive.

That said, it’s possible that direct deposits could still be made under the same timeline, “as soon as this week,” a Rep. spokesperson said. Don Beyer, D-Va., as the Treasury Department was already preparing to make the payments assuming the bill would be signed last week.

Treasury did not immediately return a request for comment, but a officially told CNBC that the timeline is expected to be the same.
