MILWAUKEE (AP) – A Wisconsin child has died of a rare condition associated with COVID-19.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported Friday that the child is the first in the state to die of multisystem inflammatory syndrome. State health authorities said the baby died sometime within the last month. The child was under the age of 10 and was from southeastern Wisconsin.
Health authorities declined to provide further identification information. Tom Haupt, an epidemiologist in the state’s respiratory diseases, says the child was one of 183 children in Wisconsin who have contracted the disease.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention had registered 6,851 cases per year. January 31st. The syndrome appears two to six weeks after a child has been exposed to COVID-19.
