Yellow New York taxi driver beaten to death in Queens

A yellow taxi driver died after being assaulted by passengers who tried to rob him in Queens, police and sources said.

The deadly attack took place on Beach 54th Street and Arverne Boulevard around 6:30 a.m. Saturday, authorities said.

Police officers responding to an ongoing assault found the 52-year-old driver lying on the road with “trauma to the back of his head,” the NYPD said.

EMS transported the victim to St. John’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The NYPD said a preliminary investigation found the 52-year-old was driving an NYC taxi minibus with several passengers. When he went to drop off the passengers, “they tried to rob him,” an NYPD spokesperson said.

The victim gave chase and was hit by several passengers, causing him to fall and hit his head, the spokesman said.

According to police sources, the driver was beaten by three men and two women and the deadly attack was captured on video.
